Privacy Policy

What this privacy policy covers

This privacy policy covers the types of personal information that are gathered and used on this site. The policy also covers what information is stored on your computer.

Information the site gathers

Email Addresses: If you subscribe to email updates for the site, your email address is stored in a database entry on the server. This address is used solely for the purpose of receiving updates to the site. I do not collect the addresses or use them in any way, and all addresses are added and removed via an automated system. If you are currently receiving updates and want to unsubscribe, there is a link at the bottom of all of the update emails you receive. Clicking the link will automatically and immediately remove you from the list of updates.

Information this site stores on your computer

Cookies: This information is taken from the WordPress Documentation Site.

When visitors comment on your blog, they too get cookies stored on their computer. This is purely a convenience, so that the visitor won’t need to re-type all their information again when they want to leave another comment. Three cookies are set for commenters:

  • comment_author
  • comment_author_email
  • comment_author_url

Again, all the data in the cookies is stored hashed. When the visitor returns to your blog, WordPress checks for the existence of their cookie, and then tries to compare their hashed data with the values stored in the WordPress database.

The commenter cookies are set to expire a little under one year from the time they’re set.

By “hashed”, it means that the information that’s stored on your computer is not stored in readable text, but rather as encrypted data. The only time this data is read from the cookie is when a post that contains comments is loaded. It is not used for any other purpose.
